Top 25 Fictional Couples, #16-20
Mar. 6th, 2005 12:33 am#20 - Sam and Annie, Sleepless in Seattle... played by Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan
It's Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan! They just have IT! This movie is in at least my all-time top 5, and it's all about the couple and wanting them to get together. You are completely convinced that they MUST be together without them ever sharing a scene! They don't even meet until the very end, all they do is touch hands, and it is (as her mom said) MAGIC! On the rare occasion that I make it to the top of the Empire State Building, I almost expect to see them there, lol.
#19 - Scott and Fran, Strictly Ballroom... played by Paul Mercurio and Tara Morice
As much as I adore Johnny and Baby from that *other* dancing movie, lol, this couple won my heart even more. The movie is Baz Luhrmann, so of course it is colorful and unique and kind of crazy, but the love story is very pure. She believes in him when everyone else wants him to change. He teaches her while also learning from her and her family. The relationship Scott develops with Fran's father and grandmother is really sweet. And hey, they dance to Time After Time!
#18 - Ron and Hermione, Harry Potter series... played by Rupert Grint and Emma Watson
Okay, so these kids were eleven when the books and movies started, and by the end of the most recent movie were, what, fourteen? I wondered a bit when I was first starting to read the books how people could get so invested in the romantic futures of *children*... I guess now I know, lol. I adore Ron and Hermione. I love their friendship, and all the bickering (their version of flirting) that goes with it. I love his panicked look when she grabs his hand, I love his jealousy, and I love her yelling at him because she doesn't think he sees her as a woman, lol.
#17 - Fran and Maxwell, The Nanny... played by Fran Drescher and Charles Shaughnessy
I loved this show and used to tape all the episodes. It was funny, but a big part of the draw was watching and waiting for Miss Fine and Mr. Sheffield to get together. I don't think they even started to call each other by their first names until they got engaged, lol. I liked the way his love for his late wife was respected and that was one of the reasons why it took years for him to give in to his feelings for Fran (ex. "the thing" = saying 'I love you' and taking it back, lol). They were opposites attract and had yummy chemistry. (Loved Niles & CC too!)
#16 - Fiyero and Elphaba, Wicked... (orig.) played by Norbert Leo Butz and Idina Menzel
"Kiss me too fiercely, Hold me too tight, I need help believing you're with me tonight"... Ahh, the one couple on the list to come from a Broadway show. Fiyero was handsome and popular, but surprisingly found himself less interested in his seemingly perfect match, the pretty and popular Galinda, and more so in the socially outcast and, well... *green*... Elphaba. When all of Oz turned against her, he sacrificed everything to save her. They got an... unconventional... happy ending. And Idina won a Tony!
