I decided to join in the fun and do the meme :) But I still haven't even finished the 30 day TV meme I started MONTHS ago, lol, so I figure the best way to go about this one is to do it in big chunks. Here's #'s 1-10:

QAF LOVE )
wouldbedorothy: (bj belonging)
Meme from [livejournal.com profile] freakykat: Post a snippet of whatever fic you're writing right now. You can give context or not. Just give a couple of lines of whatever you're working on currently.

“You okay? You do look tired.” The pad of Brian’s thumb touched just under Justin’s left eye for a second, sparking the skin, then the hand was gone.

“Want to lend me some of your concealer?” One corner of Justin’s mouth quirked slightly.

“I do not wear makeup. It’s just cream.”

“It’s tinted.”

“Fuck you.”

Day 23: Best quote
Newsradio, "Sleeping" - Dave to Mr. James (who is in a coma)

"Lisa has decided that she wants to have a baby but that she doesn't want to get married. Now I know that if you were awake you'd probably say something like, "Well son, why milk the cow when you've got a fridge full of steaks?" And I would probably say, "That makes absolutely no sense, sir." And then I'm sure you would say, "Well it sure sounded like it made sense when that guy Chuck Connors said it in that movie Chinatown." And I of course would say, "Well sir, Chuck Connors wasn't in the movie Chinatown." And I'm sure you would come back with, "Well Dave, if I wanted to have this conversation I'd have hired that guy Siskel Ebert to do your job." And I would say, "Sir, Siskel and Ebert are two guys." And I'm sure you would then come back with, "Dave, just 'cause the man is fat is no reason to make fun of him."

Srsly. LOL. Best ever.

Day 22: Most Favorite annoying character
Janice Litman Garelnick (nee Hosenstein), Friends

I am still finishing the TV meme! I think I stalled on this one and then just got used to not doing it. I stalled because I didn't know how to answer "Most annoying character." Way too many ways to go with it. There are annoying characters you love and ones you hate. Ones you hate to love, love to hate. Ones you just kind of hate and ones you want to DIE slowly and painfully. Ones you once loved but the writing ruined and became annoying and you then hate, hating them even more somehow because you used to love them! lol... Too complicated. So I changed it to favorite annoying character and had to go with Janice from Friends. She's completely annoying and you love her so much. I totally bought it when Chandler genuinely fell in love with her in S2, and also totally understood all the years where (as Monica said) the sound of her voice made his balls jump back up inside his body. She, as played by Maggie Wheeler, is a comedy treasure. Here's a medley of her catchphrase! :)

wouldbedorothy: (satc finale)
Day 21 - Favorite series finale
Sex and the City

It wasn't going to be QAF, lol ;-b

It's really hard to find a more perfect series finale than Sex and the City. Yes, there have been two movies since, one of which I've seen (and was good). But I resisted watching past the TV finale for a long time, because it is that perfect and that satisfying. All the characters have grown into right where and who they need to be and be with and... *sigh* you're happy. You'll miss them, but you know they'll be okay (without you, lol). :):):)

Here's the last scene(s). Couldn't find it all in one piece.

wouldbedorothy: (bj retardedlove)
Day 20 - Favorite ship
Brian Kinney and Justin Taylor, Queer As Folk (US)

No contest. I could not love them more. They are beautiful and forever and inspire me and... YAY!!!!!!! What the heck, here's my B/J "Love Is A Battlefield" vid again. It's only S1, but I plan to do many more!

Second place is Sonny and Carly from General Hospital. Loved them deeply through three incarnations, three actresses, from 1999 to 2005.
S&C with Sarah Brown: http://www.sarahbrown.net/sonnycarly1.htm
S&C with Tamara Braun: http://soapoperadigest.com/features/guiding-light/2003/Sonnycarly2003L.jpg
Here's the only video of mine for them I have online. S&C with Jenny Bransford. A goodbye to them.

Third is Lois and Clark, from... Lois and Clark, lol.
http://picasaweb.google.com/LaneKent08/LoisClarkTheNewAdventuresOfSuperman#5398675777238073570
Sadly, I haven't made a vid of them yet! But I have the DVD's, so I shall have to fix that! ;)

I've loved many couples, but these three were/are my true obsessions.
wouldbedorothy: (bj fave kiss)
Day 19 - Favorite kiss
Billy and Alison, Melrose Place

True, when I start thinking kisses, my mind goes first to Brian and Justin. And if I had to choose a favorite, it's the one in my icon. 314, on the bed, "Some asshole told me..." kiss just makes m'heart sing "LUUURRRVE!" like no other :)

But the one kiss that most sticks with me... beyond even the total disintegration of the couple... is Billy and Alison's first kiss on the original MP. It was 1993 and I was just turned 15. I'd been rooting for them strongly and this thing just sent me over the moon. I watched it like 5 times every morning before school for at least the next week, lol. Still have her little speech memorized. Love his initial non-reaction, then delicious participation, then the look on his face, the nervous swallow... *sigh* Even if it's het, it's still hot, lol ;-b

(For those who didn't watch, they were *supposedly* platonic roommates but you knew they were in love, tension had been building, then Heather Locklear came along and tried to get her claws into him, and GO!)

wouldbedorothy: (linds face)
Day 18 - Best TV Show Cast
Drama: Queer As Folk (US)/Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tie)
Comedy: NewsRadio

Linds is making the face at me in my icon 'cause I couldn't make up my mind, lol.

Well, I decided to pick one for drama and one for comedy... nod to the Emmys, and it just makes sense... but I still ended up picking two for drama :-b Getting ready to post, I thought for sure that I had picked QAF, but when I checked my list where I'd written some choices down previously, I had Buffy. So, they both get honored. The actors on both shows are just tremendous. And NewsRadio - even with the brilliance of the Friends bunch considered - had the best sitcom cast I think possibly ever :)
wouldbedorothy: (weslyria)
Day 17 - Favorite title sequence
Angel Illyria!

Okay, lol, let me explain this one.

I was thinking for a while on this one, and though it kind of surprised me, what I kept coming back to was Angel. Mostly, it's the music, which is a little dark and just gorgeous and draws you in. And the editing is excellent and works so well with said music. Here's the opening titles sequence for Angel season 5.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVQSkrPn27c

But, while looking for Angel's opening titles, I found a seriously kickass fanmade opening title sequence for the completely hypothetical spinoff, Illyria!!! OMG WATCH!!!

wouldbedorothy: (pride & prejudice)
Day 16 - Favorite mini-series:
Pride & Prejudice (1995)
Alice in Wonderland (1985)

At first, I didn't think I could come up with anything for this, and then I realized I had two, lol.

The BBC version of Pride & Prejudice starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle is just... delicious! It doesn't even matter that you don't see them kiss until the very end when they're married, lol! DARE you not to fall in love with Colin's Mr. Darcy!! I liked the Keira Knightley movie, but this is my version. I love it - all 6 parts! Although, I'll admit a particular fondness for part 4. Especially, this scene :)

My second choice, I always think of as a TV movie, but it did air in two parts, so I guess it would be a mini-series. The 1985 Alice in Wonderland is my favorite Alice. Had it taped off TV and watched it lotslots! It was a musical and it was filled with wonderfully old and random stars! Carol Channing as the White Queen! Red Buttons as the White Rabbit! Steve & Eydie as Tweedledum and Tweedledee! Ringo Starr as the Mock Turtle! Oh, Scott Baio and John Stamos show up, too! lol

Here's one of my favorite parts... Sammy Davis Jr. as the Caterpillar, doing a song and dance with the marvelous Natalie Gregory, who played Alice. Magic :):)

wouldbedorothy: (AG hang tough)
Day 15 - Your guilty pleasure show
American Gladiators

Ahhhh, I love this show! Mostly the classic version, although the reboot a few years ago was fun, too. It was an athletic competition show where people faced off against "Gladiators" in different events. I remember it coming on Saturdays. Must have been around noon, 'cause I watched it after cartoons. I was never an athletic kid, but I was addicted to AG, so I must have lived vicariously through the people on it, lol. It had the fun cheesiness of professional wrestling, but there was something totally genuine about it :)

My favorite Gladiators were Gemini ("THE MASTER BLASTER!!!" lol), Zap, and Siren (who was deaf!). My favorite event was probably the Joust, which involved contender and Gladiator standing on these high platforms and battling each other with what looked like giant Q-tips lol. Although, I've been watching the show again lately on ESPN Classic, and now my favorite might be Hang Tough. Well, Men's Hang Tough. In that, a contender has to swing from ring to ring to get to the platform on the other side, with a Gladiator swinging towards them trying to pull them down. And when the Gladiators catch up to the contenders, they wrap their legs around their waists and thrust all their weight onto them until they pull them down, lol. It's highly enjoyable.
wouldbedorothy: (weslyria)
Day 14 - Favorite female character
Jessica Tate, Soap

(Psst, I didn't have a Jessica icon, so my icon is for my honorable mention, Illyria from Angel. Of course, Illyia was in a female body but was actually a god and didn't have a gender, so... :-b)

Soap (1977-1981) was a sitcom that parodied soap operas and is absolutely one of the most brilliant shows ever on TV. It's in my personal all-time fave top ten.

Jessica is hard to describe. She's one of the two matriarchs of the show, and pretty much the central character, though it was an ensemble. She is... wide-eyed. Kind of innocent and daffy and sweet and weirdly wise. She would totally get what Joey on Friends was talking about with "a moo point," lol. She has this beautiful spirit and always wants to see the best in people. She says funny, sometimes seemingly not-so-bright things, but then she proves she's smarter than you think. And tougher. She loves her family ferociously and will fight for them.

Here are two classic Jessica clips that immediately come to mind: Jodie teaches Jessica some homosexual history, and Jessica exorcises Satan!

WATCH! )
wouldbedorothy: (brian guh)
Day 13 - Favorite male character
Brian Kinney, Queer As Folk (US)

Um. Yes. By a lot.

For me, the most captivatingly flawed, beautifully layered, intensely lovable character ever. Not to shortchange the writing, which was pretty brilliant, but I think at least 50% of that came directly from Gale's eyes :):):)

Best way for me to explain m'Brian love is by what I write for him, so here are some Brian pov fics, lol.

Btw, Justin is totally in the top ten, lol.

Day 12 - Favorite childhood show
You Can't Do That On Television

Anybody still reading these? ;-b

It took me a bit to figure out what this one should be. You know, how early or late childhood? Sesame Street?? Or Animaniacs? I think at one point my favorite show was The Love Boat (ahhh Love Boat/Fantasy Island Saturday nights were awesome), lol. I watched tapes of The Muppet Show, Good Neighbors, and Barney Miller (there's every kid's favorite show! lol) pretty constantly for years.

But YCDTOTV is definitely one of my favorite things I associate with my childhood. It was a Canadian show (woot!) that started in the late 70's and filmed until 1990. It aired on Nickelodeon all through the 80's and into the mid-90's. We (my parents and I) didn't have cable, but there was cable at my grandmother's house, and when we went to visit I would tape as many hours of Nickelodeon (and MTV music videos - it was actually ALL videos then!) as I could to take home. The best was the YCDTOTV and Danger Mouse hour :D

YCDTOTV was sketch comedy done by kids and teens, with a couple of adults who played a zillion different roles. RIP Les Lye, the male adult actor who played too many characters to even name. He was brilliant. His dad character was totally the original Homer Simpson. Eh, not all of the kids could act, lol, but some of the regular ones were incredibly funny. Christine McGlade (aka "Moose"), the unofficial lead "kid," was a pretty genius comedienne.

If this hasn't rung a bell, how about this?... GREEN SLIME?! Hehe, of course, the video proves it doesn't have to be green...

Day 11 - An episode you've watched more than 5 times
NewsRadio, "Rap"

Admittedly, there are a lot of episodes of many different shows that fit this for me. A LOT. MANY, MANY. But I chose possibly my favorite episode of one of the shows I watch most often... the hilarious NewsRadio.

In "Rap," Lisa is named "cutest reporter in New York," which embarrasses her, and leads to two of the most genius scenes ever: Beth's specific definitions of "cute" versus all other words to denote attractiveness, and Mr. James' gorgeously blustery rant about the importance of advertising. In the other plot, Bill finds out that rap has words in it (he'd only been listening to the bass turned way up, lol) and is outraged, several years too late. Cameo by Chuck D of Public Enemy!

The whole ep is here! Bless Hulu!
http://www.hulu.com/watch/6759/newsradio-rap#s-p3-n3-sa-i0

Starring Dave Foley, Maura Tierney, Stephen Root, Andy Dick, Vicki Lewis, Joe Rogan, Khandi Alexander, and Phil Hartman.

Whether or not you've ever seen NewsRadio, I promise you will enjoy! Watch it! :)

Day 10 - A show that disappointed you
Veronica Mars

Here, again, is my love/hate relationship with Rob Thomas. He giveth and he taketh away. Original Cupid = giveth. Cupid remake = taketh away. Veronica Mars season 1, and even season 2 = giveth. Veronica Mars season 3 = taketh away.

Veronica Mars was a kickass show. One of my very favorites at the time it was on. Season one was in all ways brilliant. Season two was perhaps less perfect but still very much great. There were things I didn't like but still thought were good writing. In S1, the lead character was a formerly popular girl turned outcast, and she was snarky and delicious. In S2, she was taken back into the popular fold, and though it was a bit frustrating watching her become someone the S1 version of her would have called a hypocrite, I still thought that writing-wise it was really interesting to have that happen. And overall, I was still very much sucked in by the whole show, its characters, its mysteries.

But by S3... eh, I don't even know. I can't really explain it except to say that she became fairly unrecognizable to me, pretty darn annoying actually, and the show itself... I just didn't care. Which is sad to me, considering how much I'd loved it.

In my icon, Logan... He's representing the show, but he didn't disappoint me. I still love him, lol.

Btw, check out my previous post again. I added a Jericho fanvid (not mine).
wouldbedorothy: (jericho)
Day 09 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving
Jericho

Jericho was on CBS from 2006-2007, was canceled, and after a big fan campaign was brought back for a tiny second season for a couple months in early 2008, before being canceled again.

I remember when [livejournal.com profile] freakykat (my roomie at the time) and I first saw the previews for that show, I don't think either of us thought we'd much like it. It looked so bleak and depressing. I couldn't fathom why anyone would want to watch a show about the apocalypse. (I have also not seen 2012 and have no desire to, lol.) Of course, it wasn't quite the apocalypse. It was a small town in the aftermath of nuclear attack. Still...

But for whatever reason we watched the first one, and right away we were addicted. It was a really compelling show! Writing was excellent. Starred Skeet Ulrich, Gerald McRaney, and a fairly big and awesome ensemble cast.

I actually bought used copies of the DVDs for Kat. Hmm. They're already used. I might as well watch them before I give them to her, lol :)

Editing to add this cool music video I found that someone made to get people excited for the second season.

wouldbedorothy: (Default)
Day 08 - Best scene ever
A Different World, "Save The Best For Last"

Doing this one quickly! I almost just went right to the final scene of QAF 202, 'cause that is my LURRRVE, but really, nothing tops this scene. Evah. Still get chills and happy tearies! Dwayne & Whitley!!!!! (No, that's not Dwayne you see there with Whitley. That's Byron. Keep watching and he will go away.)

wouldbedorothy: (animal)
I skipped yesterday, mostly because I had a humongoidmonster headache, but also because the meme Kat gave me jumped from day 6 to day 8. I don't know if there's one missing or not, but I'm just going to make day 8 day 7 and hope I don't get too confused lol.

Day 07 - A show everyone should watch
Queer As Folk
The Muppet Show

I had to pick two. Everyone should watch both :)

Some people can simply not be enlightened, I know, but the wonderful characters of QAF could surely educate and open some minds that are not yet shut with crazy glue. And it can be of delicious benefit to the already open-minded! I was always totally pro-gay rights (HUMAN rights!), but honestly I think I found the sight of two guys together just a tad weird or uncomfortable, just because I wasn't used to it. When I got into QAF, I got SO BEYOND comfortable with it, there was actually a point where I could hardly look at a man and a woman together! Lol, it didn't look right anymore!! (I got past that, but I still have a preference ;)

I was raised on The Muppet Show and I think everyone should be. It makes you the coolest kind of dork. It gives you a better sense of humor and a love of music. I think it makes you really well-rounded. It's a must-see for any age, but especially when you're a kid, it's awesome to know people like George Burns and Zero Mostel and Beverly Sills and... Mummenschanz! lol
wouldbedorothy: (supe)
Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV Show
"Tempus Anyone?" (Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman)

Okay, yes, I am somewhat cheating. I had L&C down as my runner-up favorite show. But my favorite show (Friends) had 236 episodes! For L&C (only 87), there's a standout ep for me.

It was season 3, and the second episode to feature H.G. Wells and Tempus (the time-traveling villain played by Lane Davies). Lois ends up in a parallel universe where Clark has not become Superman, and she has to teach him how to be Superman to save Metropolis/the world. It breaks your heart, because you almost want her to stay there with parallel Clark, because that universe's Lois is dead (he never met her), and the Kents are dead also. And he's almost her Clark, but he's not, and she has to get back to her (fiancé!) Clark.

Found one clip! (audio's a little weird but I'll take it, lol)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3xsWVazWN4

I have realized, however, regarding Friends, looking at episode guides, it probably had the most consistently brilliant Thanksgiving episodes of any show ever, lol. I may have to do a post just about those.
